Here We Go

Today we took our first flight that begins the 36 hour journey to Punta Arenas, Chile to board the RV Laurence M Gould on Friday, April 12th, before the ship starts the four day steam to Palmer Station Antarctica.

This is the beginning of the trip of a lifetime.

The trip I've been preparing to take for months.

It feels completely surreal that I've said my goodbyes to my dogs, my husband, my family, and my framily until I see them all again in Late May or early June.
And up until this point a lot of people have been asking me if I'm excited, and I am SO excited, but what's been really interesting is how a few people have thought to ask if I thought I was emotionally ready to take a journey like this.
And that made me stop and think.
It made me realize that I really don't believe that being ready for something like this this is something you can actually know until you just take that step out of your comfort zone and do it.

So here I am, taking a huge leap out of my comfort zone and just doing it!

Thank you for joining me on this journey!
Once this trip begins I hope to post an update once a week. So please continue to check back to see pictures of penguins, stories of the science we're going to be doing, or just to see if I'm still alive!

And if you'd like to follow along in even more detail (mom) here are a few links that allows you to see where the RV LMG is in pretty much real time! Like FindmyFriends but way cooler, since it will even tell you where we're heading next and the current weather we're facing. (in case you want to place bets on if I'm seasick or not)

and

See you on the other side of the world!
